Pumping up oil pressure so an engine has a good lubed start?
Is there an add on for the automotive engine oil system to pressurize the engine oil before the engine is started. I don’t mean after an engine has just been rebuilt, rather an engine that has already run. I am hoping to keep the engine in top shape by preventing any dry starts after the engine has not been run for a few days.
Yes, there are several very good pre-oiler accumulators. I think Moroso Accumulators and Accusump Accumulators are the best. I would recommend the Accusump Accumulators. You can buy them in 1 quart, 2 quart, and 3 quart capacities and with a manual valve or an electric valve. I would recommend the 2 quart or 3 quart accumulator and the standard electric valve kit. The oil accumulator collects pressurized oil while the engine is running and the valve closes to store the pressurized oil in the accumulator when the engine is shut off. The valve opens when the ignition is turned on and the spring loaded piston in the accumulator forces the pressurized oil in the accumulator into the engine to pre-oil the engine before start-up. After start-up the engine’s normal oil pressure pushes the accumulator piston back and the accumulator fills for the next start-up. Accusump accumulators, installation kits, and Accusump electric valve kits (as well as manual valve kits) can be purchased at most speed shops and parts stores selling Canton Racing Products.
